Friend if you haven’t seen Brené Brown’s special on Netflix, The Call to Courage, go watch it. Seriously. Subscribe if you need to. It is one of the most important, significant messages I have ever heard.
These were the words I woke up to this morning floating in my head, desperately needed, many distilled from soaking up Brené’s message over the weekend. Easter weekend. The time celebrating a stone moving to leave death an empty grave. I’m smiling because the timing is perfect.
DRESS REHEARSAL CANCELED
i refuse to dress rehearse tragedy,
teeter on the edge of graves and gravity
that have yet to be dug.
the dress rehearsal’s canceled,
tell the players to all go home.
i won’t let tomorrow’s maybe loss
steal today’s absolutely present joy,
or my army of what ifs overtake what is
i won’t extrapolate fear or engineer smallness.
and worst case scenarios
make terrible roommates.
they need not apply.
i will show up, embrace uncertainty,
fail with creativity, celebrate mundanities
and be brave (today at least)
with my one, very precious life.
