Turning Simple Moments Into
Timeless Masterpieces

Because the simplest moments are also often the most profound.

Where lines and pigment and love stories meet, meaning spills onto paper. The stories that matter most start deep inside us. These are the stories that change us and the world we touch.

Stories forged in vulnerability that cost us our comfort, and call courage and creativity out of places in our hearts we didn't even know were there.  And that journey deserves to be documented.

Poiema. It's an ancient Koine Greek word meaning masterpiece, workmanship, work of art.  It is where we got our English word poetry from.  And it is also used to refer to who we are as human beings.  Because to live and love well is an art form itself.

What if you could take your simplest, most profound moments and turn them into one-of-a-kind, custom abstract art that honors your space & your story?

Abstract Art You Can Connect With

I have a passion for creating abstract art inspired by the moments that mean the most to you.  Art that is connected to your story and the people and places you cherish.  Art that sees beyond the surface to honor the emotion and essence of what is.  A custom art experience that is accessible for both your walls and your wallet.

PETALS

The petals from your wedding bouquet or special event florals only last for so long.  But you can preserve them forever in a custom abstract painting based on photography from your day.  Custom florals are a significant investment.  This is one way to make that investment last.

The most timeless portraits capture the raw truth of a moment.  They tell a story in form and color, light and emotion.  They reach beyond the surface to a deeper place beneath.  They celebrate connection and purpose, and remind us that being seen for who we are can be the greatest gift of all.

Abstract landscapes are incredible ways to bring a sense of place into your space without being photographically literal in its portrayal.  Abstract interpretation and intuition create the possibility of inner and outer landscapes intertwining and inviting an even greater journey.

PORTRAITS

PLACES

Your story is precious.  Trusting someone with even a moment of it is a vulnerable, brave thing to do. I don't take that fact, or your trust, lightly.

I have intentionally kept the size options for Poiema Abstracts small for two reasons.  First, because there is only so much wall and surface space. (How many times have I loved art pieces, but would need to add half a house to display them.)  Second, because I want to keep this offer as approachable as possible financially.

I believe you and your story are worthy of being seen and celebrated.  Moment by moment. Stroke by stroke.  I can't wait to serve you and those you love.

(And if you really want a larger size, I absolutely can make that happen. Just drop me a message here and tell me what you are looking for.)

ALL THE DETAILS

We keep things simple around here.  Here's how it works and what you can expect:

THE PROCESS

1 | Select your artwork size and finish your purchase. Make sure your email and mailing address are accurate and current.

2 | You'll receive a link to download the PDF file with instructions on how to email me your photographs. I suggest you have 2-3 photographs selected of the same subject for me to choose from in creating your artwork.

3 | The painting process takes 2-3 weeks. If you need an order rushed, please let me know when you send me your photographs. The painting time does not start until I have your photographs in hand. I will try to accommodate your timing, but it may require a rush fee.

4 | Once your painting is complete, I will package it to protect it from being damaged during shipping & send it on its way. In the unlikely event, it arrives damaged, contact me with photos of the damaged packaging as well as the damaged artwork within 24 hours. Solutions will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

I started my professional art journey as a custom watercolor wedding stationery designer.  Just as my business was starting to take off, in January 2018 I was in a serious car accident that severely injured my dominant wrist.  I went through over a year of rehabilitation and surgery and more rehab.  While I regained much of the function in my wrist, the fine motor control of detailed lettering remained painful.  In July 2019, I made the difficult decision to shut down the stationery design part of my business down.

Years before wedding stationery was even an inkling, I was a photographer and painted abstracts.  Suddenly I was sitting in my studio with a big blank business space to fill. In the silence, a question came.  What if I could take meaningful photography from milestones and moments, excavate the very essence captured in its pixels and let that inspire a custom piece of abstract art that honors story, space and substance?

I have always believed the best portraiture helps us see ourselves in new ways.  And that the moments that mean the most are often the simplest and most ordinary.

I believe beauty can be found in broken. vulnerable places.  Even if those broken places are found in our own hearts and stories.  That abstract art can be courageous and transformative.  That it can help us embrace our own dance of beauty, brokenness, and becoming with greater understanding.

And that, my friend, is why I created Poiema Abstracts.

Bring on the questions.  Here are a few questions I get pretty regularly (in case you might have them too).  If you have a question that isn't listed or want more information about one that is, don't hesitate to hop over here to get in touch and ask away.

WHAT MATERIALS ARE USED?

I use professional 300 GSM watercolor paper from Europe and a variety of professional artist grade watercolors, gouaches, acrylics, pencils and mixed media elements.

WHAT WILL MY FINISHED ARTWORK LOOK LIKE?

I combine systematic visual evaluation along with my signature intuitive style to capture and honor the forms, colors, values, composition and movement found in the inspiration photography provided. Every commission is unique to the photos provided and the moment being depicted.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN THAT THE ART IS "INSPIRED & INFORMED" BY?

I do not translate a representational or a literal rendering of the photography provided.  Rather the photographs are the inspiration that informs my painting and I include elements that reference the photo(s), but allow the abstract painting to stand on its own as a piece of fine art.

WHY DON'T YOU OFFER REVISIONS OR REFUNDS?

I have a well-defined systemized approach of ensuring all Poiema pieces have a consistency of detail, style, and the elements included.  As such, and as all artwork holds a degree of subjectivity in its creation, I am unable to offer revisions, exchanges or refunds for commissioned artwork.

WHO OWNS THE COPYRIGHT OF THE FINISHED ARTWORK?

I own all the rights of usage and the copyright of every piece of artwork I create.  My clients receive the original artwork itself, but that does not imply or equate to the transferral of ownership or the granting of any rights of usage or reproduction.  All rights remain reserved to D. Michele Perry.

If you are interested in licensing artwork, please get in touch with me here to begin a conversation.

HOW ARE PAYMENTS HANDLED?

Payment is due at the time of purchase via my online store.

ARE FRAMES INCLUDED?

No frames or mats are included.  All frames and other objects are used for display purposes only.

My favorite way to frame small pieces of art is by matting them 2 sizes larger.  For example, matting a 4x6 inch piece with a single, wide mat to an 8x10 inch size frame.

AM I RECEIVING AN ORIGINAL OR A GICLEE/PRINT?

Clients receive the original artwork.  I reserve the right to make prints of select pieces after the original has been delivered.

WHY DO YOU ONLY HAVE SMALL SIZES LISTED? CAN I COMMISSION A LARGER PIECE?

Because I want to keep this as accessible as possible, both in size and price.  Please email me about the availability of larger commissions.
